Who We Are
There are groups providing TNR and animal rescue throughout the five boroughs of New York City, and throughout Brooklyn, and there have long been individuals working on TNR projects in Bath Beach and Bensonhurst. But until recently there hasn't been an organized group dedicated to TNR in our neighborhood. Believing that there is strength in numbers, and that the cats living in Bath Beach and Bensonhurst deserve the attention that only a local group can provide, Denise and Peter Szalaiko founded Ferals in Peril, Inc.
Denise and Peter have extensive experience implementing TNR and care taking for colonies throughout the neighborhood. Ferals In Peril, Inc. is a 501 (c) 3, not-for-profit organization, a member of the Mayor’s Alliance and the New York City Feral Cat Initiative. Our focus is the provision of TNR education and implementation of TNR. Ferals in Peril will provide education throughout the community and assist community members with TNR projects. Because Ferals in Peril focuses on TNR and does not have space or manpower to rescue and shelter cats, the organization cannot accept homeless cats.
Ferals In Peril, Inc. expanded their services to the surrounding communities of Dyker Heights, Bay Ridge, and Coney Island in Brooklyn.
Some people might ask, in such a time as this, who can afford to care about or care for homeless cats? Ferals in Peril understands the economic challenges that just about everyone is coping with. But we also believe that it is the responsibility of the strong to look out for the weak, and that it is up to us to protect those who have no voice, and who had no choice in being brought into the world without a safety net.
